Home and Community-Based Services (HCS)

Residential Support Services (RSS)

Services are provided to the individual 24 hours a day to achieve and/or maintain the outcomes of increased independence, productivity, enhanced family functioning, and inclusion in the community as outlined in his/her person-directed plan. Services may include but are not limited to:
- Assistance with grooming, eating, bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, ambulation and mobility.
- Assistance and/or training with activities of daily living (housekeeping, laundry, cooking, shopping, etc.)
- Providing or arranging transportation
- Other activities that are essential to the health and safety of the individual, specified in the plan of care

Supervised Living (SL)

Provides services and support to the individual by qualified staff and according to the individual Plan of Care and Person-Directed Plan.

Community First Choice (CFC)

Provides assistance to individuals residing in his/her apartment or own home of their choice as independently as possible, or the residence of their natural or adoptive family. This services assures that individuals are living in a safe and healthy environment and receiving quality support on a regular basis. Services may include:
• Training in Activities of Daily Living skills (eating, toileting, and grooming) and health-related tasks: maintenance and enhancement of skills necessary for the individuals to care for themselves and to live independently in the community.

Host Companion (HC)

Services are provided in a private residence by a Host Companion provider who lives in the residence and who is not providing any services pursuant to a contract with Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.

Respite

Services are provided on a short-term basis if the care-giver is in need of relief from providing normal care or respite can be provided in case of an emergency. This service could be a help to family members who may need time to take care of personal needs or to renew themselves.

Texas Home Living Services (TXHmL)

TxHmL offers services to support people who live in their own homes or with their families. TxHmL services are intended to supplement instead of replace the services and supports a person may receive from other programs or from natural supports such as family, friends or community organizations.
